I will use the external mic(lapel unit) most of the time as i am taping my car(s) on various road courses. The sound is great and the resolution and anti shake seem to work fine.Very good service from amazon and dealer Purchased for external mic input and high resolution for such an inexpensive unit.Works great, although previous reviews were correct. The internal mic does pick up a lot of noise from the drive mechanism.
one other reviewer mentioned the lack of SD card (which I only now discovered). this is not a gripe with the product or the seller but with amazon which stated in description "also compatible with SD cards" which unfortunately is not true. If you want an external mike and a greater zoom, then this wins out over the ZR950. so if you want a camcorder to take stills onto SD, look elsewhere. i ordered this product thinking it had all the features of the 950 plus an external mike jack but this unit is missing a still capture feature that I desired since I'll be traveling and only want to carry one camera. so this is going back.
Our Mac wouldn't recognize the camera at all. However, if you are not concerned with using Mac's software, this is a fine, basic camera. until we bought a Mac Book Pro in December.
It was very frustrating to have a new camera and a new computer and not be able to use them together. I would suggest to anyone looking to buy a camcorder to seriously think about buying one that takes still photos also. Ultimately, we bought a different camera.
We bought this camera in July 08 and this one was a great choice for us. I brought in the camera to the Apple store and they plugged it into their computers to test it there and the same thing happened, which is nothing. I didn't think I cared about that, but ultimately, I wanted the ability to do both.
This camera was not compatible with iMovie. I called Apple and talked with their support reps and they said the same.
It's easy to use.we've had it since Christmas and have used it several times so far and haven't had any problems. This camcorder is very small, so it can fit in coat pockets, a purse, etc.very convenient to just grab it and go.
I'm not interested in taking stills with my video camera, so the 930 was the better choice for me and cheaper. Only difference between 930 and 950 is that 950 has SD slot for still shots (930 doesn't), and the 930 has an external mic jack (950 doesn't). I've bought a second ZR930 for a family member because we really like ours and it is perfect for newbies. Very simple to operate and just as easy to download from the tapes to a Firewire'd PC (I have Vista and it was easier than I expected, must buy firewire cable though).
